Programs > Minnesota Business Venture > Discussion Topics Speaker / Discussion TopicsMBV's experiential learning opportunities allow you to learn by doing. You'll learn about investing your money, become proficient at interviewing and get a taste of being a “start-up” company. Here is a list of sample topics/activities covered
at MBV: • Entrepreneurial Stories – When you have an idea for a new product or want to be your own boss – what steps do you take to become successful? • Marketing - You are impacted by about 5,000 advertising impressions each day. When marketing yourself or your new company – are you clearly marketing to the right audience? What’s the first impression you make in a job interview or when meeting someone new? • Investing - How can you turn $1.50/day into $921,971? Here’s a chance to ask questions of financial planners about investing. • Business Ethics – Learning how to make ethical decisions and knowing what is right and wrong can dictate a successful future. Occasionally, a white collar felon is a guest speaker along with an attorney. • Debt Sucks! - Do you know what a credit score it? This 3 digit number can impact your ability to get a job, rent an apartment and get a loan. We will share with you how to avoid debt. • Insurance – Very important and some of it required by law. How can you save money on your car insurance? • Paying for College and College Admissions – How do you know what college to apply too? Tuition varies from school to school – how can you afford it? • Mock Interviews – Nervous about that first job interview? Here’s a chance to get some honest feedback to help you improve your interviewing skills before you have to do a real interview. • Business Plans – You know you want to open your own business, but you need start-up money to buy equipment and pay for research and employees. How are you going to ask for money? Are you ready to answer questions such as: What is your marketing plan? Are you outsourcing? What is your plan to repay the loan? Through teamwork within your company, you will be able to experience developing a new product idea, developing marketing, operation and finance plans, and present your business plan to a panel of judges. This is great practice for when you apply for a business loan in real life! Of course, we have a LOT of fun during the week as well: free time, corporate olympics, volleyball, a dance on the last night of MBV, etc… Questions?
