Frequently Asked Questions 2008

General Information
Minnesota Business Venture (MBV) is a unique hands-on learning experience for students completing 9th – 12th grade. Each summer, approximately 325 students from about 100 high schools attend one of the two week-long sessions from across the state. Any public, private, charter or home school student is eligible. Students who attend MBV have a fun time learning business, entrepreneurship, consumer and financial information that greatly benefits them now and after high school.

2008 Dates:
Session 1: July 13–18, 2008 at St. Cloud State University
Session 2: July 27- August 1, 2008 at St. John's University

Through the many activities and speakers at MBV, students return to the classroom with better communication and presentation skills, a better grasp of business and personal financial management skills. MBV is a bargain - only $125 for the week, with financial aid available, if needed. If students enroll after April 15th, they pay $175.

Students who successfully complete MBV receive one high school elective credit (based on 60-unit semester credit), awarded through the St. Paul Public Schools. Traditionally, credits transfer easily between Minnesota school districts; however, it is up to each school district to accept the credit. In addition, St. Cloud State University is offering one college credit and a $750 scholarship. This is available to students completing their junior year of high school when they attend MBV and who enroll as freshmen at SCSU. More information will be made available at MBV.

Ways to become involved with MBV
Educators play an important role in recruiting students to attend MBV. Sometimes the most powerful words you can say to a student are “MBV is a great program, you’ll meet a bunch of other students and have fun, plus it looks great on college applications and you can use the information in your future.”

Opening your classroom to a 10-20 minute presentation about MBV is another great way to help promote MBV. Classroom presentations are frequently provided by returning students and the BestPrep staff.
