Activities
throughout the week at MBV focus on financial management, career development,
teamwork skills and entrepreneurship. More than 150 volunteers are needed
to make MBV a success each year. Below are short term volunteer opportunities
where you can positively influence the lives of many students.
2009 Dates:
Session 1: July 12-17 at St. Cloud State University
Session 2: July 26-31 at St. John’s University
Financial Planner - Students are eager
to know about investing. Only 16.7% of high school seniors have taken
a money management or personal finance course. These volunteers will lead
small groups of students in discussions about the importance of effective
financial planning. Volunteers are briefed and provided with curriculum.
Fifteen volunteers are welcome each week, usually on Tuesday afternoons.
Mock Interviewer – During the week,
students complete a job application in preparation for a potential job
opportunity. The next step is preparing for the interview process. As
a Mock Interviewer, you will sit down with a student and conduct a brief
10 minute interview, followed by feedback to help them improve. Numerous
interviews will be held over a two-hour period. Volunteers are briefed
and provided with sample questions. Thirty volunteers are welcome each
week. This usually takes place on Tuesday morning.
Business Plan Judge – Throughout
the week at MBV students work in groups, called “companies,”
to create a Business Plan for a hypothetical product of their own design.
Each group presents their Business Plan at the end of the week to a panel
of Business Plan Judges. Participating as a judge is an excellent opportunity
for you to see what students learn at MBV, and to give feedback to the
students. Fifteen volunteers are welcome each week on Thursday afternoon.
Resident Business Leaders
– This week-long volunteer experience is an excellent leadership
opportunity that makes a powerful impact on you and the students. Please
visit the RBL page for more information.
