The Stock Market Game™ Program is used to meet requirements in many subjects. Teaching strategies vary with the age of the student participants. It's not unusual for students to participate several times between grades 4-12.

The SMG Program is available twice each school year and once during the summer. Participants work in teams of five or less. At the start of the 14-week simulation, each team receives a hypothetical $100,000 to invest in a portfolio of securities listed on the New York Stock Exchange, The American Stock Exchange and the NASDAQ Stock Market. Teams use the Internet to follow their portfolios, research stocks, enter trades at real-time prices, and see their weekly division ranking. Instructors may pre-register teams online.

To aide instructors, BestPrep offers teacher training sessions. These workshops are designed to provide instructors with the information necessary to successfully participate in the program. Items discussed include how the program works, the rules of the game, lesson and activity ideas, and information on the stock market. No previous knowledge is required.

The cost to participate is $18 per team. Training workshops are $50.
